Hey Leader!
Welcome to the first blog post! This blog has been a dream of mine and I’m so excited it’s here!
And I’m really glad that you’re here! I want to help you lead better, serve more, and find balance so you can make the greatest impact to your team and your life. (Learn more about me)
What’s Your Leadership Motivation?
Let’s kick things off with something basic, but so important – what is your primary motivation to be a leader? Growth? Achievement? Power, glory, pride, or money? Does it even matter?
I think it matters…a lot!
You must "lead as a service" to your team members to maximize your leadership impact. Share on XLead As A Service
This “Lead as a Service” mindset (which can also be called servant leadership) is the core of true leadership and needs to be your primary motivation for you to have the greatest impact.
Being a leader is the noblest of positions – people are handing over to YOU a key part of their life and livelihood, and entrusting YOU to care for and guide them. Share on XLeaders must take this responsibility seriously; it’s not just another job. Just think about the type of leader you want to have leading you. Don’t you want your leader to have this service perspective? I know I do. And I know you can be this kind of leader!
Amazing Things Happen
When leaders truly adopt a "lead as a service" mindset and a servant's heart, they create environments where people flourish and thrive. Great leadership starts with a heart of service! Share on XJust think about the amazing outcomes that can result from this perspective – employees thrive, teams succeed, joy increases, results are maximized, success is realized, retention rises, hiring is easier, companies grow, customers win, and on and on!
And you know what else? The grace of this type of leadership is that by leading as a service you will be more fulfilled. How amazing is that? Selfish pursuits are ultimately fleeting and unfulfilling, but the pursuit to serve others and make a difference is continually fulfilling.
Selfishness Destroys
But the opposite is true too! When leaders are driven to succeed at all costs for their own fame and glory, they negatively impact others and leave chaos in their wake. When leaders don’t serve their team members well and aren’t in it for others then a lot of negatives show up…stress, confusion, pain, frustration, selfishness, turnover, failure, sickness, and more. Nobody wants to work in that kind of environment with a selfish leader. You can probably think of leaders where this has been the case. Who wants to work with a leader like this? Not me!
Come To Serve
It is critical that your motivation in leadership be to serve your team members, not yourself.
You should be proud to be a leader, but don’t be prideful.
You may have power, but don’t do it for the power.
You may make more money, but don’t do it for the money.
You must come to serve, not to be served because whoever would be a great leader must be a servant.
This is what it means to “lead as a service.”
My Vision For The Lead As A Service Site
This “Lead as a Service” vision has helped me to develop and refine my personal leadership framework: “People First Leadership – How To Create Commitment, Engagement, and Pride in Your Team for Sustainable Success.” Leading as a service is the core of my framework and it will be the cornerstone for this site.
The Lead as a Service blog will be a place to further discuss why leading as a service is so important, how to lead as a service for your team members, and my People First Leadership Framework. In addition, this blog will be a place to discuss how we can be leaders who are healthy, have balance, and succeed at both work and home – something I’m equally passionate about.
As we go, I’ll share tools and resources from other leaders that have shaped me as well as tools and resources which I have built that I hope will be valuable to you. Stay connected by signing up for my updates so you don’t miss any of the valuable things to come!
Up Next
In the next post, I’ll begin to explain and teach my framework – “People First Leadership – How To Create Commitment, Engagement, and Pride in Your Team for Sustainable Success.”
Until then, go and lead as a service…
