Picture this, you’ve implemented all 3 Steps of the People First Leadership Framework in the right order and amazing things are happening! Way to go! Your team is committed to you, engaged in their work, and proud of the results. You’re so engaged in leading your team and beaming with pride of what everyone has accomplished. There is joy and laughter, excitement and passion, growth and opportunity. This is how teams are supposed to function and leaders are supposed to lead. Things are awesome!

But there’s more…

The Momentum Bonus

What you find out is that the success and winning that you’ve achieved has created an excitement for more…you have unlocked the Momentum Bonus! This momentum becomes additional fuel for each of the 3 steps.  In other words, it connects Step 3 (Results Happen Third) back to Step 1 (People Must Come First) with greater speed and force to make a greater impact as you cycle through each step!  This is the flywheel effect I mentioned in the first post of the series (another H/T to author Jim Collins). Let me illustrate how it works:

MORE People Must Come First

You use the team success to: have more fun, celebrate, and make joy; give more recognition, promotions, and raises; provide greater growth, achievement, and opportunity for your team members.  And you can hire great team members because they want to join a winning team.  This creates even greater commitment!

MORE Mission and Vision Come Second

You use the team success to create greater excitement, adoption, and progress on the mission and vision of the team and everyone’s work.  This creates even greater engagement!

MORE Results Happen Third

You use the team success to motivate your team members toward greater execution to achieve further successful results.  This success is contagious and the team digs in to keep winning.  This creates even greater pride!

MORE Momentum

The Momentum Bonus – momentum continues to build each time that you follow the steps of my People First Leadership Framework, bringing about greater commitment, greater engagement, greater pride, and SUSTAINABLE SUCCESS! Share on X

This is why I describe the framework as more than just a pyramid like I showed in the last post and instead show it as a repeating cycle, continuing to build upon itself:

Final Review

Whew! There you have it! 7 posts that break down my People First Leadership Framework – How To Create Commitment, Engagement, and Pride in Your Team for Sustainable Success. I loved unpacking my leadership framework for you and I hope you found value from the series.

Here is a quick summary of what we covered:

  • The 3-Step Framework is Simple – This gives the framework power and flexibility for any situation.
  • People Must Be First – Create commitment from your team members to you as their leader.
  • How To Put Your People First – Think with a People First Perspective, Do People First Actions, and Make People First Decisions.
  • Mission and Vision Come Second – Create engagement in your team members to their work. Apply the mission and vision to each team member across the 3 perspectives (Their Work, Them, and The Company/Organization) to get team member adoption.
  • Develop and Deliver the Mission and Vision – There are 3 steps to effectively developing and delivering the mission and vision to your team: (1) Use The 5 Cs, (2) Embrace Them, and (3) Communicate.
  • Results Happen Third – Create pride in your team members to their work. Completing steps 1 and 2 without delivering successful results is failure so you must step up and be the leader your team needs to lead them to success.
  • Create Momentum for Sustainable Success – Effectively and successfully implement steps 1 through 3 in order to create momentum that leads to sustainable success!
